What can I do while I am waiting?

  • AN APPOINTMENT LETTER WILL BE MAILED TO YOU USING THE MOST CURRENT ADDRESS LHA HAS ON FILE. Make sure you keep your address on file current; LHA is not responsible for returned mail.
  • YOUR LETTER WILL HAVE INSTRUCTIONS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW. It can take up to 60 days to determine eligibility. You can make this process much faster by bringing all requested information with you to your initial interview and following instructions in the letter.
  • EVERY PERSON AGE 18+ IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND THIS MEETING.
  • IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY, GET SOCIAL SECURITY CARDS AND BIRTH CERTIFICATES FOR EVERYONE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD. This can take time and can cost money but you must have these documents in order to be eligible for a voucher.
  • IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR LETTER, YOU NEED TO CALL.
  • IF YOU NEED AN INTERPRETER FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT, YOU NEED TO CALL IN ADVANCE.
  • IF YOU ARE A NO-CALL AND NO-SHOW TO YOUR APPOINTMENT, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CANCELLED AND YOU WILL HAVE TO REAPPLY.

If you are eligible to receive a voucher, your next step is to attend a voucher briefing.

More information about waiting lists can be found in the Section 8 Administrative Plan or you can call LHA at 402-434-5500.
